VIDEO: Public Comment Speaker CUT OFF For Speaking Out On INDICTED Los Angeles City Council Member's Questionable Transfer of Funds
Here are videos from BOTH items from the Friday, October 15, 2010 Los Angeles City Council agenda where a Councilmember, under 32 indictments, wanted to transfer money from the Lopez Canyon Landfill Community Trust Fund -- to pay for NEXT YEAR'S (2011) FIREWORKS DISPLAY and for a Christmas Parade. (It should be noted that it is alleged that the councilmember (and his pal) is part of the annual firework display organization, up for the money transfer.
The sudden emergency to transfer money from a trust fund to pay for NEXT YEAR'S FIREWORKS, in a budget crisis, when the Councilmember is expected to be stepping down from the seat raised a flag among two of the people in sitting in the chamber audience. This story (of Los Angeles City Council's un-merited interruption of speakers/censorship) is being discussed on blogs and the radio, now. Here are videos from the two items, along with a third video, that same day, on floating a loan (budgetary item).

L.A. City Council BALKS at Change for DWP Pension Reform of NEW HIRES by VETOING DWP's Plan. (Council Creates The Mess, Wants To Pile on MORE, then says, "NO" to Attempt To SAVE LOS ANGELES...IT'S OVER!!! THEY WILL NEVER AGREE ON A SOLUTION. GET OUT OF L.A., NOW!!! WARNING...MUY PELIGROSA!
Facing new pressures on its pension system, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) says it can no longer cover much of the retirement cost for the employees it has hired away from other city agencies.
About 1,600 workers have transferred to the DWP from other city departments over the last six years, finding higher pay while avoiding furloughs and layoffs elsewhere. (A dumping ground for L.A. City dead weight it can not longer afford, not that it ever really could.)
Those new arrivals have created a $183-million pension burden for the utility, according to DWP officials. To deal with those costs, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's appointees on the DWP board voted last month to suspend, at least temporarily, full pension coverage for any new employee hired by the utility from another city department. (After the mayor handed out raises and increased benefits that he KNEW the city could NO WAY afford -- when he was running for re-election. [Only to quickly announce we couldn't afford it after he was RE-elected.])
That decision infuriated some members of the City Council, which voted unanimously Wednesday to veto it. (CITY COUNCIL...this was YOUR chance to show the voters some "good faith" that you want to clean up the mayor's mess and put the city on track...BUT WE SEE YOU ARE STILL NOT READY TO GIVE UP OLD TRICKS AND BAD HABITS!)
Over the last two years, the council has demanded that the DWP, which is separate from the city budget, hire workers from agencies facing major cuts. (They mean, let them sweep CITY HALL's MESS under DWP's rug.)
Councilman Richard Alarcon called the DWP's move...(WHO CARES WHAT THAT INDICTED JOKER HAS TO SAY. IF I WANNA KNOW WHAT ALARCON HAS TO SAY...I'LL GO VISIT HIM IN PRISON AND ASK HIM!)

L.A. City News Update for Monday, October 11, 2010 - Sally Choi (L.A. Pension Manager) QUITS LACERS, Just As Massive Work To Be Done (NOT A GOOD SIGN SINCE SALLY IS "TOPS") Probably Too Much Integrity AND Unions Better Get Ready to GIVE BACK, OR ELSE!!!
Main story being covered by L.A. City News is the "conflict of interest" (legalese for "corruption") at L.A. Housing Dept over Rent Escrow and Outreach Contractors hired by the City of Los Angeles. Council addressed the issue during the July 21, 2010 council meeting (Item 37) and was followed up by Zuma Dogg on Friday (October 8, 2010) based on a memo provided by L.A. Housing Dept personnel. See this blog for streaming audio, video & blog posts that will explain in detail and better inform you to the matter.
Here is the rest of L.A. City News, Politics & Commentary for Monday, October 11, 2010. Most notable: The great Sally Choi, manager of LACERS (L.A. employee pension fund) is quitting on short notice after a wave of demands were called for on the announcement that one-third of all city dollars are headed to pay for pensions of retired workers. Leaving the city with only two-thirds to operate, when they are already having trouble doing that.
Choi's resignation is not a good sign, cause Sally is amazing, and if she is "walkin'" -- that means there must be a cog in the system...UNLESS, SALLY WAS THE COG that wouldn't go along with the shady pension machine. Secondly, for Monday: Is market research showing the general public is fed up with unions who refuse to make pension concessions with EXISTING EMPLOYEES? L.A. Mayor Villaraiogsa has announced plans to throw a pension reform measure on the next ballot -- allowing all the common folk in L.A. to CUT AWAY AT THE UNION PENSIONS, MUCH MORE SEVERELY THAN WHAT THEY COULD HAVE PUT BACK IN THE COOKIE JAR, AS A "THROW 'EM A BONE' CONCESSION. Doubt they'll budge. However, one way or the other...IT'S GETTIN' CUT!

Los Angeles City Council Candidate Profile: David Barron in CD 6 to REPLACE Current Incumbent TONY CARDENAS (Need We Say More?)
Although we still have important Statewide elections in just a few weeks, the race for Los Angeles City Council has officially begun, as L.A. Clean Sweep held a first, one of a kind, City Council 2011 Candidate Forum that featured some of the grassroots candidates who have already declared -- along with the one L.A. City Councilmember who actually knows what is going on (regarding the budget crisis and what it will take to improve it), Bernard Parks -- who seems to have the biggest stable of challengers of all the Councilmembers, so far.
After watching videos of the event from Saturday, the most notable election is in CD 6, now, for two reasons:
First of all, Tony Cardenas is the current incumbent councilmember and when you look at all the even numbered district council seats up for grabs in the next election, Cardenas stands out as the biggest facilitator of "fraud, waste and abuse" of all 15 councilmembers. (And that's saying a lot.)
But, there needs to be a second component, and that revealed itself, Saturday, at the forum:
A viable candidate who is able to articulate real solutions to deep-rooted problems of fraud, waste and abuse. NOT JUST REPEAT EMPTY EXHORTATIONS OVER AND OVER, saying how we need, "More of this, and less of that." (Unfortunately, that's all most of the other candidates had to say, based on the video segments, currently posted.)
DAVID BARRON was a stand-out, not only among the candidates present from the forum, but of all the city council candidates who have run in the past five years, since this blog was created.
It was delightful and refreshing to hear David Barron articulate some real measures (and he fired off quite a few) that would address the problem plaguing City Hall politics at the systematic level.
Here is the video that created the excitement to generate this post. (Even though Mr. Barron is not necessarily exciting in delivery; only in his concepts.)
