Alright, kiddies....HERE'S how it works, now: YOU blew it, A-GAIN...and the residents of Venice are SICK of LAPD & L.A. City Hall BLOWING IT with BOGUS rules @ Venice Beach boardwalk that don't even pass the first round of legal muster. (Aka: Dowd/Dogg had your laws WIPED AWAY IN FEDERAL COURT...WITHOUT AN ATTORNEY.) So ZD, being the leader that he is, has taken the ball (a hardball aimed at your head) and will be taking it upon himself (along with Dowd) to create the new rules the City Attorney's office will be accepting and embracing at Venice Beach to keep the city out of more trouble with FEDERAL JUDGES when it comes to "the law of the land." (Clearly something the City Attorney's office has proven they choose to ignore and trample.)
UNFORTUNATELY, until now...when you talk about the rules at Venice Beach boardwalk, IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO FOCUS 100% ENTIRELY ON THE WEST SIDE (vendor/performer/speaker/artist side of the boardwalk.) SO THAT ENDS...BOTH SIDES WILL BE ENFORCED, EQUALLY.
So when you take the decibel meters up and down the boardwalk, make sure you use them on the stores that purposefully blast their giant speakers to drown out performers on the beach side. (MAKES IT TWICE THE PROBLEM.)
ALSO, I have seen LAPD put someone in HANDCUFFS because their display of hand-painted art was NOT EVEN OVER THE LINE...but ON the line. (It would be a HUGE pain to have to take down the entire display to set it up a half inch back.)
HOWEVER, have you ever noticed as you walk down the boardwalk, you see all kinds of sandwich board signs and things displayed in front of stores, along the retail side of the boardwalk. WELL...are the stores paying RENT for the city boardwalk??? (NO!!!) AND, when it is crowded and people are bumping into each other -- CONSIDER THERE IS PLENTY MORE SPACE ON THE BOARDWALK, BUT BASICALLY AN ENTIRE LANE IS TAKEN UP BY SIGNAGE AND DISPLAYS OF THE STORES.
BUT YOU WRITE TICKETS TO A PERFORMER ON THE BEACH SIDE FOR BEING "ON" THE LINE????
ALSO, STILL writing tickets on the beach side for stuff like a painted rock (the rock had a "Made in China" sticker on it, but the artist painted on the rock.)
BUT, if you walk up and down the boardwalk and look at the retail stores, do a count of how many stores are selling counterfeit merchandise like shirts and all the other usual bootleg apparel and whatnot. (I HAVE NEVER SEEN LAPD APPROACH A STORE FOR THAT??? WHICH IS A BIGGER AND MORE COSTLY PROBLEM???)
SO A LOT THINGS WILL BE CHANGING AT VENICE...AND, FOR ONCE, WHATEVER RULES ARE CREATED, WILL BE ENFORCED ON BOTH SIDES.
